Keynote Session 2: Engineered Nanomaterials and Devices in Biosensor Applications<\/strong><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.18.0″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.18.0″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.18.0″ _module_preset=”default” text_font_size=”16px” text_orientation=”justified” global_colors_info=”{}”]Khairuddin is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Nano Electronic Engineering and Faculty of Electronics Engineering Technology and also the Director, Centre for Graduate Studies, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).<\/p>\n He received Doctor of Engineering Science from the Universit\u00e9 Catholique de Louvain (UCL), Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium in 2013. Prior to joining UniMAP in 2005, he had worked at Hewlett-Packard then Agilent Technologies (M) Sdn. Bhd, Penang, where he was the Product Engineer for the Motion Control Department, manufacturing various printers\u2019 sensors. Later, he joined ON Semiconductor (M) Sdn. Bhd, Senawang, Malaysia, where he was involved in the development of Under-Bump-Metallurgy (UBM) for Flip-Chip Packaging,<\/p>\n After that, for his doctorate study, he was involved in the characterization of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) ultra-thin body and thin buried oxide (UTBB) for advanced low power mobile transistor (22-nm technology) applications.<\/p>\n His current research is related to Field-Effect device technology and biosensors. With his experience in semiconductor packaging, fabrication process, and device technology, gained at industry and academic, he has received various national and two Royal Society \u2013 Newton Ungku Omar mobility and PHC-Hibiscus grants. He has published nearly 100 impact factor papers with H-index of 26 in web-of-science database. He is one of the founding members and currently Past-Chair\/Advisor for IEEE Malaysia Section Sensors & Nanotechnology Joint Councils Chapter.<\/p>\n He is also a Professional Engineer and serves as the Engineering Accreditation panel for the Board of Engineer Malaysia (BEM) and Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.18.0″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.18.0″ _module_preset=”default” type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.18.0″ _module_preset=”default” text_font_size=”16px” text_orientation=”justified” animation_style=”fade” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″]<\/p>\n Hand-held label-free biosensor applications are the indispensable approach in diagnostics. It is expected to provide potential advantages in terms of simplicity and rapidity of the measurement and enable accessing the kinetics of the molecular recognition process, into a measurable electrical signal, then potentially transmits the information for further analysis or diagnosis. In this presentation, biosensors based on Field Effect Transistor (FET) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) are the focus of the device architecture, which both can be based on semiconductor materials and compatible with existing silicon technologies. At the beginning of the presentation, the chronological aspect of device scaling from the conventional scaling approach will be presented, which opens the opportunity for sensing enhancement in label-free biosensors.
